3D Printed Battery and Finished Components
We have all are aware of 3D printing keychains and enclosures. And few even tried to 3D print circuit boards to an extent.
But now the next target is to develop finished products. Manufacture a different component would be a key factor with this 3D printing technology and unless you want to supply external power, one of those components better be a battery or other power source like a solar cell.
Recent work with Additive Manufacturing entitled Batteries with this technology.
Some of the techniques are pretty originating. like, holographic lithography now produced high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Whereas, some of the processes didn’t sound much different than some of the more common printing techniques employed by desktop printers, although with more originating materials. like, some batteries are made with inkjet printing or even fused deposition printing.
A common thread for with the 3D Printing technology is none of these technologies is completely successful for commercial use. The major issue doesn’t seem to be in realizing the geometry of the anode and cathode.
Rather, it is forming shapes with materials that will act as the different parts of the battery. There are other challenges, too. For example, fabricating lithium ion needs to be in an argon glove box to lock out oxygen and water.
As per the newly evolving thing with 3D printed electrodes may have more surface area than conventional electrodes leading to better batteries. The only concern is the mechanical strength of those electrodes.
Conclusively, even it seems this additive manufacturing is far away from actual implementation. There is a number of smart peoples are working with this technology to make it within our site.
There is a lot of research going around the world with this 3D Printing technology. Still, we can expect a wide range of applications with 3D printing.
